Texas Hold’em and How to Play
So, you want to learn how to play Texas Hold’em? Well, we’re going to do our best to teach you. Play begins with the 2 players left of the dealer placing out what are called blind bets. The one closest to the dealer puts out the small blind and the one next to him puts out the big blind.
The dealer begins the deal after the blinds are placed with each player receiving 2 cards. Most people call these hole cards, and some say pocket cards, so you may here it either way.
The player left of the player with the big blind is the first to play or act, as it’s called in poker. This first player is able to call the bet, raise the bet, or fold the 2 cards in their hand. Betting continues around the table.
Once everyone has finished betting then the dealer deals 3 cards face up in the center of the table for all to see and play off of. The first 3 cards are what players and dealers alike call the flop. Once again, after the flop betting continues with the player to the dealers left as before, this person can either check or bet the cards that they have in their hands and also using the cards flopped earlier. Betting is completed and the next round is continued.
Fourth Street or the Turn card as it may be called is now turned over by the dealer and placed with the dealer for a bet. Another round of betting follows.
Fifth street or the River is the final card dealt face up. The final round of betting follows. The remaining players show their cards and the person that can make the best 5 card poker hand wins.
